Filtermatten voor wegfilteren en afbreken van vuildelen
Different Types of Filter Materials for Your Pond
Every pond filter contains materials to enhance filtration in your pond. There are several types of filter materials available:
- Filter mats or sponges
- Bio balls
- Zeolite
- Filter brushes
Filter Mats and Sponges for Removing Debris
Filter mats and sponges help remove debris like leaves and waste from your water. Over time, a colony of various microorganisms grows on the filter mats, breaking down debris. These are part of the ecosystem of your pond. A good amount of filter mats provides a large surface area for microorganisms to attach to. BluGarda filters often contain multiple types of filter mats, including a fine mesh and a larger mesh. Different types of bacteria can adhere to these for effective ecosystem functioning.
Bio Balls for Microorganism Attachment
Some BluGarda filters contain plastic bio balls that offer a large surface area for microorganisms to attach to. As polluted water flows past these bio balls, waste is broken down and converted into nutrients for your pond by these microorganisms.
Zeolite for Absorbing Harmful Substances
Zeolite stones are small white stones that absorb harmful substances. These are stored in the zeolite and can be broken down over time.
Replace Your Filter Material Timely for Optimal Filter Performance
BluGarda filter systems all contain one or more filter materials. Over time, these filter materials can wear out due to pollution or corrosion. To keep your filter working optimally, maintain the ecosystem, and keep your pond clear, replace these filter materials in a timely manner.
When to Replace Filter Material?
With proper maintenance, filter material can last for years. However, they may wear out due to corrosion. Therefore, maintain your filter material well. As a rule of thumb, replace your filter material when it becomes less effective due to wear. You can recognize this when it blocks less debris or starts to crumble.
How to Replace Filter Material?
Never just replace your filter material, as they are a source of microorganisms for the ecosystem in your pond. If you discard them, you lose them. We recommend the following steps:
- If your filter system consists of multiple filter mats, replace one half first and the other half after 1-2 weeks. This way, your ecosystem remains intact during replacement.
- Use BluGarda BluNature Starter Bacteria (starter bacteria) when replacing filter material. You can pour this over the filter material in your filter for accelerated ecosystem functioning.
