Setting Up Outside the Pond
It can be very practical to set up your pump outside the pond. This makes it easy to access for installation and maintenance. Also, when you use a skimmer or bottom drain, for example, setting up dry outside the pond is practical. When purchasing your pump, check if it is possible to use the pump in a dry setup / outside the pond.
Setting Up Below Water Level
A pond pump usually has no suction power. We always recommend placing the pump below the water level. This can be next to / outside the pond, but below the water level. This prevents the pond pump from running dry. Even if you have dry run protection, we still recommend this.
Dry Run Protection
With dry run protection, you protect your pump from running dry. As soon as it has no more water, the motor / rotor may continue to run. This creates a lot of heat and cannot cool without water. This can cause the pump to fail. Dry run protection detects this and will switch off the pump.
The BluFlow Control 8.000 and 15.000 have this detection and protection built into the controller.
