Reduce UV-C Lamp Capacity
A UV-C device helps to combat algae, keeping your pond clear. Algae develop extra quickly at high temperatures and lots of sun. In the fall or winter, algae will be less likely to get a chance. A UV-C device is not always necessary then. You can reduce its capacity or duration as soon as temperatures start to drop. In the winter, it can often be turned off completely.
Set UV-C on a Timer
You can also set the UV-C lamp on a timer. The BluPressure Smart Control pressure filters contain a built-in timer with settings for 0, 12, or 24 hours.
In the fall, you can set a timer for 12 hours; as temperatures continue to drop and there is less sunlight, you can even set it to 0 hours.
For BluClear UV-C devices, you can put a timer between the socket and the UV-C device.
Is spring coming again and temperatures are rising? Turn the timer back on and check the operation of your UV-C lamp. Replace the UV-C lamp when needed.
Turn Off UV-C Device
You can also turn off a UV-C device completely when it is not needed in the winter. Disconnect the device if necessary and store it dry and indoors to protect it from frost. Consult the manual for advice for your UV-C device.
